There’s a new ‘kid-on-on-the-block” – Lee Ing from Fast and Fresh Bakery in Taupo has taken away the coveted Bakels Supreme Pie Award for 2017. His entry in the Gourmet Meat category was a venison, mushroom, bacon and cheese pie.
Lee’s ‘melt in the mouth’ masterpiece beat out more than 5,600 entries in what is the award’s 21st year. Lee’s venison pie first caught the judges’ attention when it took out Gold in the Gourmet Meat category. The decision to crown Lee’s creation was unanimous, with the pastry, texture and flavour all ticking the right boxes.
